BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter 2008 Show at New York Fashion Week

The BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter 2008 collection isn’t exactly what you might expect for fall/winter clothing: short sleeves, short skirts, sleeveless coats, even shorter skirts.

BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter Collection 2008

Karla Martinez, women’s fashion market director, had this to say about the show, which took place at the tents in Bryant Park:

About the clothes: Muted colors — a lot of beige, pale gray and plums. All very wearable silhouettes in the first part of the show and the finale dresses are great for ladies with great legs! Standouts: Gray wool long pleated dress. Pretty, delicate layered collars.

BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter Collection 2008The California-based designer’s collection was the first major women’s catwalk show of New York Fashion Week. The collection featured lots of subdued neutral hues, though there were a few brighter colors here and there - like cranberry, golden yellow and teal. Many of the looks featured pleated details. Lots of the designs were paired with belts. And, of course, there were very short hemlines.

As usual, the designs that stood out the most from the Fall/Winter 2008 Collection were the dresses.

BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter Collection 2008The collection, as a whole, is being called a “fresh departure” for BCBG Max Azria.

As expected, many celebrities attended the show, notably Joss Stone, Ana Ortiz, Sophia Bush and Christina Milan.

Jeremy Scott Screeches In: At LA Fashion Week Spring 2008

Jenny Peters Thu Oct 18, 1:03 PM ET

Culver City, CA - It is never good when a model becomes road kill during a fashion show, especially one centered around motifs of tire treads, caution signs, manhole covers, and other street and construction-related themes, but that's what happened at the Jeremy Scott show on Wednesday night at Smashbox Studios. It was Day 4 of the Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week, and everyone was obviously a bit tired. Plus, Scott decked his female models out in five-inch black spike heels. Before one model took a spill, and marred the white runway with exactly the tire marks that had been artfully painted across her face, models were wobbling all over the place, fashion victims all.

Scott began with tan-hued looks covered in work-boot footprints, a silk caftan, then a frumpy housedress, a silk button down shirt dress, and another shapeless, below-the-knee granny dress, then followed with a male model embarrassingly clad in sheer black pants tied up in a big bow, with the same motif repeated on his on-display underwear. All the women wore large round hats that looked like manhole covers; the man had a hardhat to match his frou-frou pants.

Next up was a series of black-and-silver tire motifs, the pattern repeated on a short silk dress cinched with a wide leather belt; on a hoodies paired with sheer black shorts; on a one-piece, one-shoulder ruffled bathing suit; on a tiny romper; and on him, done in boxers with a matching vest and another hardhat.

Other motifs in the collection were giant handprints done in silver on black, in a variety of styles, including an evening gown; a bright yellow ruler look, with the inch marks printed in jet black, shown on super-skinny, super-tight jeans for both men and women; and the most fun of all, a riot of caution, stop, and other street signs combined into a pattern that adorned miniskirts, sweats, and even the designer himself, as he headed out to take his bow.

New York Fashion Week

What:
Designers produce fashion shows to show off their latest collections. Currently, the shows are sponsored by Mercedes-Benz so they are referred to as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. in the past, they've been referred to by other sponsors such as Olympus Fashion Week.

Where:
New York City in Bryant Park (42nd and Sixth), an 8-acre park that is converted to a temporary fashion arena with tents. The tents are huge, air-conditioned and contain several venues for the designers to show their collections. The individual venues -- ranging up to almost 12,000 square feet -- come complete with runway, seating for attendees, backstage areas, lighting and sound. Some fashion designers choose to have their collections shown in showrooms or other off-site venues during the week.

When:
Twice a year. The fall shows are held the preceding winter (February). The spring shows are held the preceding late summer (September). Earth Autumn/Winter 2007 New Collection now available Amazing New Styles and colours LoveThoseShoes.com / EarthAutumn

Who:
Fashion shows are attended by journalists, buyers, celebrities and social types. The shows are invitation-only and each designer is responsible for the guest list. Journalists must seek accreditation prior to the event.

Why:
Fashion Week is an excellent opportunity for American (and a few international) designers -- ranging from Oscar de la Renta to Zac Posen -- to show off their upcoming collections. The fashion shows are often entertaining, accompanied by loud, mood-setting music and changing lighting. The press writes about and photographs the runway collections for newspapers, magazines, internet and television so the general public can see what is going on in fashion.

History:
Fashion Week is produced by 7th on Sixth, which was originally formed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1993, then acquired by IMG -- a lifestyle and sports marketing and management firm -- in 2001.
