A Cross Without the Burden of Religion

wooden cross pendant

Here is another beauty from Love and Pride Jewelry. This is a wooden cross pendant unlike any other that I have come across in all of my wide jewelry wanderings. I am not religious at all, I am more of a spiritualist one might say but even still the sign of the cross holds some meaning to me as it does to most in one way or another. This is a neat take in that it is nothing like the traditional crucifix, not in any way shape or form. It is not even made of the same types of materials you normally see crosses in. If it was still the early nineties I would say this cross is rad!

I like the wood they chose for this wooden cross pendant. I have absolutely no idea what kind of wood it actually is, I just know that it is a darker wood with a striped kind of natural grain to it. The wood itself is a triangular piece all sharp edges and hard lines and I think it is so strong the way it pierces the cold steel. And of course who cannot notice that small twinkle that is the diamond accent, talk about the jewel in the crown right?

This is a really great wooden cross pendant that I see as perfectly unisex. I can see it on a guy or a girl with ease. The black cotton cord ensures it suits everyone perfectly and it’s adjustable too which is always a plus.

Wicked Hot Pearls can be Modern or Classic

pearl necklace

Before you start looking for some fabulous pearl jewelry to purchase you need to take a look at all of the different styles out there on the internet. There are natural blister pearls, classic round pearls the popular buttons pearls and so much more. There are also some specific things that you need to keep in mind as you shop for your pearl jewelry.

How to shop for pearl jewelry

If it is a pearl necklace that you are looking for you first need to determine what style you want. There are long pearl necklaces as well as pearl chokers or pearl collars. These are both gorgeous but each will compliment different type of clothing. It is important that you choose the pearls that will look the best with the outfits that you want to wear them with.

If most of your wardrobe consists of v necks and off the shoulder items then you should seriously getting a pearl jewelry collar. This pearl necklace will leave the bosom open and clean looking, it will not give a cluttered look to the neckline of your clothes. These pearl chokers can look just as hot with jeans as with a ball gown, this makes them a wonderfully versatile purchase when it comes to pearl jewelry.

A double or triple strand long pearl necklace looks best with a high neckline or an extremely low fitted neckline. These are very complementary and come in many varieties of colors.

Colorful pearl jewelry for any occasion

All pearl jewelry, from pearl necklaces, earrings and even bracelets come in a wide variety of colors. There are pink pearls, white pearls, cream colored and peacock colored pearls. And these are only a few of the myriad of shades of pearl jewelry. If you are interested in adding some versatility and elegance to your jewelry collection then pearls are a wonderful choice.

When you put on classic and elegant pearl jewelry, you will instantly look more beautiful and graceful. Pearls are lovely and perfect for all seasons. Start shopping for your own pearl jewelry today and watch the heads turn as you walk into the room.

All The Beautiful Celtic Jewelry Designs

celtic jewelry designs

You don’t have to be straight or Irish to fall in love with Celtic jewelry designs. These jewelry pieces are a favorite among all walks of life because of their originality and their wonderful lines. I personally have a veritable trove of Irish inspired pieces and I love wearing them, they are just so mysterious and fun.

I am going to be doing a small group of posts addressing the different kinds of Irish jewelry designs including pieces like Celtic knotwork rings, Celtic promise rings and Celtic engagement rings among others.

Celtic knotwork rings and crosses are filled with history and each design has a special story that makes it more than just a piece of jewelry, these stories make Celtic jewelry works of art.

So what the heck do Celtic jewelry designs look like?

This Celtic pendant is a fine example of traditional Celtic jewelry design. It is intricate and you can see the detailing clearly in the silver work:

celtic knot pendant

This Titanium Celtic mans ring is more simplistic but still a classic look in this style of jewelry today:

celtic mens ring

This is a fantastic example of Celtic weaving in jewelry. I personally love the way the three different colored metals are all woven together. I want it!

celtic weave ring

Celtic jewelry designs often incorporate fantastic swirling symbols and intricate patters like those you see in Celtic knotwork rings and many times there’s a cross worked into the design somehow. The crosses and the knots are probably the most popular of all.

The Celtic cross is one of the most famous of all symbols used in Celtic jewelry design. Rumor has it that it was St. Patrick that designed the very first of these crosses all those years ago. He drew a circle over the traditional Catholic cross to symbolize something unique and even more special.

There is more than one belief concerning what this added circle represents. Some say it represents the halo of Christ while others believe that it represents eternity and never-ending love. No matter which interpretation you follow, this kind of Celtic jewelry design is always a wonderful addition to your jewelry collection.

You don’t even have to be religious to enjoy the wonder of this kind of Celtic cross jewelry. For example, the arms of the cross can symbolize the mind, the body, the soul and the human heart, or even earth, air, fire and water. There are as many interpretations of the Celtic cross as there are versions of it.

This is one of the reasons why Celtic jewelry designs have been flourishing for generation upon generation all over the world.

4.38 carat diamond surfaces at CDSP

Chad Johnson a regular visitor of the Crater of Diamonds State Park (CDSP) has found nearly 80 diamonds in the past so many years.

On November 5, Mr Chad came across yet another diamond and this time it was the biggest stone among his previous findings.

Although it initially looked like a cube-shaped rock, it was actually turned out to be a 4.38 carat, tea-colored diamond.

Crater of Diamonds State Park was made open to the public in 1972. It is by far the only diamond producing site allowing public not only to unearth diamonds but also to take home their findings.

A 16.37 carat Amarillo Starlight white diamond found in 1975 is so far the largest diamond found at the park and this year, discovery of more than 700 diamonds have been recorded.

Dhanteras may bring relief to anxious jewellers

Even with all the excitement and festivities around Dhanteras, the rising prices of gold and other jewelry just don’t seem to get stationary. Investors are therefore playing safe by purchasing small quantities.

Buyers are now thinking twice before indulging in gold purchases for the auspicious occassion. Jewellers believe that the demand for gold jewelry is likely to fall by nearly 50 percent this Diwali.

The average price this year is up by about Rs2,000 per 10 gram compared to last Dhanteras. Moreover, Delhi market is witnessing a further rise of about Rs200 per ten gram.

However, some people also believe strongly that in spite of the rising gold prices, plunge in sales is an unlikely occurrence. Dhanteras will only augment the jewelry sales, though the purchase might be made in small quantities.

The team at Nalanda Capital has had a long and successful track record of private equity investing in India. Given the peculiar nature of the Indian private equity industry, the Nalanda team believes that the right long-term investing model for India is to apply the private equity discipline in the public markets. The team has successfully applied this discipline in their professional careers before Nalanda.

USA : Little black dress meets little black gem

It’s been more than 80 years since Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the pioneering French fashion designer, popularized the little black dress, which has since become a wardrobe essential for women in all corners of the globe. The LBD, as it is often called, exists in many variants, and can be worn on almost any occasion that calls for style and elegance.

Like the LBD, the little black gem -- otherwise known as the LBG -- is also classic, yet versatile. The varied LBG collection consists of diamonds, pearls, opals, onyx, and other unique stones, ranging from the most affordable to the most precious gems available. No matter what their price, these stunning stones connote affluence while complementing the LBD as well as many other colors and styles of clothing.

Although some black gems, such as the cultured black pearl, are now reaching new heights in popularity, the use of black stones in jewelry can be traced back to Biblical times. A large onyx stone is said to have graced the gem-laden breastplate of Aaron.

Black stones were also in the spotlight in the 19th century when Queen Victoria, mourning the loss of her husband, Prince Albert, commissioned the crown jewelers to create entire parures out of carved jet, a fossil coal also known as “black amber.”

During the same mid-19th century period, black onyx and other dark stones were extremely fashionable. And later, during the “Roaring Twenties,” style-conscious women in the United States wore long strands of jet beads extending from the neckline to the waistline.

The black diamond represents the ultimate LBG. According to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the world’s foremost authority in gemology, black diamonds get their color from the presence of numerous inclusions, often consisting of graphite.

Due to the dense concentrations of these dark inclusions, sometimes lining the stone’s cleavages and fractures, black diamonds are generally opaque and difficult to cut. Some notable black diamonds are the Black Star of Africa at 202.00 cts. and the Black Orfloff, at 67.50 cts.

Near the top of the LBG list are natural black pearls, which represent one of the rarest and most exotic of gem materials. In the 1960s, however, a black-pearl culturing industry was initiated, and today, cultured black pearls play a prominent role throughout the international jewelry community.

Tahitian cultured pearls are among the most popular of the black pearls. Known for their deep luster, these pearls can range from a soft dove grey to a deep midnight ink color.

Other LBG stones to look for include shimmering tourmaline, glassy obsidian, and hematite, which is a favorite of lawyers because it is fabled to bring the wearer success in litigation. No matter which LBG the wearer may choose, they can be assured that it will meet their requirements for versatility and style -- proof that the little black dress has finally met its match.

FOR THE LOVE OF LEJU

ONCE you've seen one piece of LeJu jewellery, you'll recognise it anywhere; the brightly coloured statement pieces are created from a sustainable material called vegetable ivory, which gives them the distinctive, smooth texture of elephant ivory - minus the cruelty. Each piece is handmade by Dutch-born jewellery designer Lenny Trines, who, with the backing of business partner Juan Munoz, ensures the designs remain 100 per cent sustainable. The vegetable ivory is dried out and then sliced or carved into beads and unique shapes, before being coloured using natural plant extracts and oils. "We discovered vegetable ivory expedition to South America in 2004," explains Munoz. "We travelled down the Amazon River through the Amazonian rain forest for eight weeks, stopping in different villages to explore and meet the people that inhabited them. We went for walks in the jungle with a guide who showed us the different uses of plants and trees for medicine, plastic and so on. It was in this way that were introduced to the palm seed, Tagua, or vegetable ivory, and other tropical seeds that were naturally vibrantly coloured. Lenny was amazed by the prospect of being able to make jewellery with sustainable plant-based products and straight away felt a connection to the Amazon and a compulsion to design and create jewellery." LeJu exhibited at London Fashion Week last month and Trines admits she was overwhelmed by the level of positive attention the label received. "There is a connection between nature's colours, shapes and energy and people, and our customers love to see that we use natural sustainable materials to create such unique pieces," she reflects. Titanium Jewelry Expands in Popularity and Accessibility

Titanium lends itself to settings that are impossible with other materials, opening the door to creativity and optimum style. Titanium jewelry and other white metals such as tungsten and palladium have been quickly earning the respect of jewelry designers, due to its light weight characteristics, durable strength and malleability.
A growing trend in titanium jewelry has emerged with as much strength and malleability that the metal itself is known for. As fine jewelry designers look more towards white metals for unique and stunning jewelry pieces, one online retailer has anticipated this growth trend by opening its virtual doors to the global population.

Titanium-Jewelry.com, a leading online retailer of titanium rings and unique titanium jewelry designs for men and women, now accepts international orders on custom and fine jewelry designs made of high grade titanium alloys. Shoppers from around the world, looking for a high quality titanium ring, necklace, watch and many other titanium jewelry collections, can now shop online at www.Titanium-Jewlery.com. Beautiful titanium jewelry designs made for the fashion savvy man or woman can be purchased via the web and shipped domestically or internationally.

The sleek look and phenomenal quality of jewelry constructed of white metals has created a diverse fan base for titanium jewelry collectors worldwide. Titanium jewelry and other white metals such as tungsten and palladium have been quickly earning the respect of jewelry designers, due to its light weight characteristics, durable strength and malleability. Originally, geared toward men’s fashions, many designers actually prefer titanium for women’s jewelry as well.

Since titanium lends itself to settings that are impossible with other materials, it opens the door to creativity and optimum style. Additionally, traditional settings can be far more prominent and durable. For example, a titanium ring with a tension set diamond or gemstone can offer more visibility to the stone as opposed to a silver, gold or platinum setting. This allows more of the stone to be exposed to light offering greater brilliance and shine, while ensuring maximum security for the stone.

Designers are able to carve a niche in distinct consumer markets. Many ocean enthusiasts are drawn to titanium jewelry because it doesn’t deter them from doing the activities they love most. Because titanium is extremely resistant to corrosion, it retains its beauty even under harsh environments such as salt water. Offering sleek beauty and hypo-allergenic qualities, it’s also a favorite among people with sensitive skin or who are prone to metal allergies.

Anticipating a growing market, Titanium-jewelry.com enhanced its order processing system this month to include shipments going to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France and Italy among other countries. Since titanium and tungsten jewelry are growing in popularity on a global scale, the market for titanium jewelry is just barely hitting its prime. There are so many possibilities and unlimited potential for growth in terms of designs and demand. With the new international ordering system, Titanium-jewelry.com can now reach a larger audience of titanium and tungsten jewelry enthusiasts.

Just as there are limitless qualities offered in titanium jewelry, shoppers can now shop with no boundaries or restrictions.

Jewelry Boxes for Children - Tips and Advice

Every woman remembers the first jewelry box she had as a little girl. For most women, they were cheap cardboard boxes covered in glossy pink paper, but the outside was less important than the inside. When opened, the jewelry boxes played merry tunes while a beautiful ballerina danced. Unfortunately, those jewelry boxes wore out quickly. Within a few months, the ballerinas’ springs were starting to bend and the paper was peeling off.

Rather than give your little girl a jewelry box that will wear out quickly, spend a little bit more to get her a beautiful box that will grow with her and become a treasured possession for years to come.

Selecting Jewelry Boxes for Children

When buying jewelry boxes for little girls, look for a few key elements that will transform the box from a place to store cheap play jewelry to a home for any expensive pieces the child receives for special occasions like religious celebrations, birthdays, and weddings.

External Materials:

Long-lasting jewelry boxes are usually made of wood, leather, or high-quality plastic. You want a finish that will stand up to inconsistent care as your child grows, and will also stand up to heavy use. The hinges should be sturdy metal and firmly attached. The cover should open easily and stay open when lifted, then close gently with light pressure.

Internal Materials:

Soft velvet or sueded fabric, whether it’s cotton or polyester, will protect the jewelry from scratches. A paper lining may come unglued quickly and small pieces of jewelry can get lost behind it. The ballerina’s spring should be sturdy and the ballerina made of good plastic so she doesn’t chip.

Music:

The song should sound lively and clear. If the song is already out of tune or plays too slow or too fast, there could be a defect or the battery may be dying. If you plan to keep this for years, then the jewelry box should allow access to the battery compartment.

Size:

Typical children’s jewelry boxes are 3 X 5 X 4 inches, with much of that space consumed by the musical mechanism. A larger box with drawers or doors will be more useful to your child as she grows up. One she’s mature enough to care for her nice pieces herself, she’ll need a special place to store them.

Costume Jewelry - The Vintage Stuff is Worth Some Serious Dough!

Fashion jewelry made its first appearance in the U.S. following the conclusion of World War I. First purchased in French boutiques by American GI’s fighting in the war, superbly crafted yet inexpensive costume bracelets, pendants, and necklaces were purchased in record numbers. New designs featuring a host of semi-precious stones and unique materials caused a rapid rise in popularity allowing the poorer Americans to feel rich. Soon after, American companies quickly dominated the market. Some of the most popular manufacturers of vintage costume jewelry include:

  • Trifari
  • Florenza
  • Weiss
  • Eisenberg
Authentic costume pieces are basically any type of jewelry not featuring any type of precious metal or gemstone yet produced in large quantities. This cheap yet beautiful alternative soon found its way into jewelry collections across the nation. Essentially, the jewelry was a thrifty alternative to the relatively excessively priced fine pieces made of out precious metals and featuring gemstones like diamonds, rubies, sapphires, or perhaps even pearls.

Virtually any vintage fashion jewelry was readily available for anywhere between $1-10 prior to World War II. Some manufacturers were forced to go out of business during the Great Depression, but surprisingly, a lot of the companies survived and did quite well after World War II. The hay day for the jewelry came in the 1950's and 60's spurred on heavily by advertising on television. Today, high quality costume pieces are more popular than ever and make great gifts for young girls, teenagers, and even adults just looking to add some diversity to their jewelry collection.

While cheap to buy when first released, vintage costume jewelry pieces produced between 1920-1970 are often seen as treasured collectibles in today's frenzied market. Incredibly, there are many pieces being sold in flea markets for a few bucks while being worth hundreds! There are three main things that help determine the value of authentic vintage pieces:

  • Rarity
  • Stone/Gemstone Quality
  • Craftsmanship
Although there were a number of manufacturers, they produced jewelry in varying quantities. For instance, major players like Florenza and Coventry unleashed thousands of copies for every design. Some of the smaller manufacturers like Barclays, DeMario, and McClelland produced much smaller volumes and as such pieces made by them are both rarer and worth more money on the marketplace. Indeed when all other factors are held even, the DeMario necklace will almost always be worth more than a similarly designed Coro version. You definitely need to do your homework, however, because even the large players produced some designs in small quantities making them more valuable than typical pieces from the company.

In many cases, the quality of the stone plays the largest role when it comes to determining value. While none of the stones would be considered "precious" in the traditional sense, there were companies that crafted pieces consistently using high quality stones and semi-precious gemstones, such as:

  • Eisenberg
  • Bogoff
  • Weiss
  • Hollycraft
One place renown for using exceptionally high quality stones is Eisenberg. It is hard to find a piece at a flea market that is not already high-priced unless you happen to stumble upon an unsigned one. You want to locate those pieces produced by Hollycraft, Weiss, and Bogoff because they tend to be under-priced on the market and thus make a better investment. Besides the materials used, the quality of metal and craftsmanship will help determine how valuable a piece is on today's market Manufacturers known to consistently craft superior pieces were:
  • Danecraft
  • Trifari
  • Kramer
  • Monet

The Newest Fashion Trend in Hip Hop Jewelry

The hip hop jewelry industry has always been known for it’s innovation in jewelry, sometimes good and other times bad. However, the newest fashion trend is starting to catch on and that trend is the custom belt buckle.

Custom belt buckles are simply a belt buckle that allows the person wearing it to customize it to their own taste. There are two very popular forms of custom belt buckles and they are custom name plate buckles and LED scrolling text buckles.

Custom name plate belt buckles allow a person to pick out several letters that they want to appear on their buckle. They can choose to display their name, their initials or any other message they would like. These belt buckles are becoming very popular and are being worn by an increasing number of celebrities. The most popular form of these custom name plate belt buckles is the iced out version in which the buckle is lined with stones in order to give it that “bling” look.

LED scrolling text belt buckles have become extremely popular and are being worn by more and more people. The LED belt buckle is a small rectangular buckle which has a LED screen built into it. The person wearing the buckle can then input any message that they desire and can have it scroll across the LED screen. These LED scrolling text belt buckles usually let the users input up to 8 different messages and can be programmed to either scroll the text or blink the text on the screen. The scrolling text belt buckles can also be bought with an iced out buckle frame and are one of the most popular hip hop jewelry items on the market right now.

Hip Hop jewelry is always pushing the envelope on fashion trends and often goes too far. But the newest trend of custom belt buckles seems to have become very popular and is one of the most often bought pieces of iced out jewelry. The LED belt buckles and custom name plate belt buckles appear to be here to stay.

If you are interested in getting your own custom hip hop belt buckles take a look at the latest LED Belt Buckles and see if one fits your style. Or if you are more interested in a custom name belt buckle start designing one today. For all your iced out bling jewelry needs feel free to browse our large selection of hip hop jewelry.
