Angel Ball Raises $5 Million for Cancer Research

New York - 'Tis the fall, and the season of the ball...the Angel Ball, that is. The annual charity event, founded in 1996 by Denise Rich to fund cancer research in memory of her daughter Gabrielle's untimely death at the age of 27 from leukemia, is always a star-studded affair, and this year's ball, held on October 29, was no exception.

They rolled out the red carpet at the Marriot Marquis in the heart of Times Square for everyone from Joan Collins to Kelly Rippa to Jamie-Lynn Sigler, models such as Beverly Johnson, Petra Nemcova and Jessica Stam and top notch names in music like Natalie Cole, Ashanti, Sean "Diddy" Combs. In total, the gala raised $5 million for the G&P Foundation for Cancer Research.

Looks for the evening ranged from the glam gowns with a crystal embellished neckline, worn by Kelly Ripa, Ashanti and Natalie Cole, to the asymmetrically draped short silk flapper-esque dress worn by Katrina Bowden of "30 Rock." Both Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jessica Stam donned gowns with painterly ombre effects, making a striking statement with color and texture.

Joss Stone, who performed at the ball, also took a style risk with a bright tie-dyed fuschia sheath dress, while fellow performer Patti LaBelle's dramatic Japanese kimono-inspired ensemble, in pale yellow with floral print, hit the right note for a music icon of her stature.

The evening's honorees included Glenda Bailey, Editor-in-Chief of Harper's Bazaar; Debra L. Lee, CEO of BET Networks; Dr. Stephen D. Nimer, Chief Hematologic Oncology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the late President of United Arab Emirates H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
